Playing House: Happy Fall!

We have been enjoying the fall weather around here these days and are gearing up for our first Halloween in the house.

1. One of my favorite seasonal decorations, corn on the front door. / 2. Our backyard. Still haven't raked, but maybe soon? / 3. We finally finished fixing up our front steps and can actually sit on them now. Halloween was a good motivator for that project. / 4. Just a few of our many pumpkins and colorful mums.

Tonight we are hunkering down in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy and thanking ourselves for making the new roof a priority.

Kitchen: Before & After

Before we moved, we decided that the kitchen would be the first room we tackled in the new house. Though our budget prevented us from diving into a full-scale renovation (hopefully that will come in the next few years and will include knocking down a wall), we've come a long way from the outdated, gold kitchen the house came with. It's amazing what a few cans of paint can do. We still need to do something about the floors, ceiling, and "pizza hut" lamp, but so far we're enjoying the simple upgrades.

ps, Many thanks to the friends who helped paint cabinets. We owe you!

Kitchen Sneak Peek

It has been a very busy week trying to get ready to move. Here's a peek at the progress we've made in our new kitchen so far.

Yes, it's true...

There will be more to come in the next few weeks as we pack up our lovely apartment and move a mile and a half north to our new bungalow.

Georgetown Flea Market

Tim and I have been house hunting for the past few months and recently went under contract on a bungalow in 16th Street Heights. While it is still uncertain as to whether or not we'll get the house, we decided to have a little fun this weekend by going to the Georgetown Flea Market to start shopping for ideas. Here are some inspirational photos:

1. Some comfy, bold chairs—potential accent pieces for a home office; 2. Reclaimed wood dining room table; 3. Lovely new rugs; 4. Cuban screenprint posters; 5. Large matching vases; 6. Old cameras (as the daughter of a professional photographer, I'm always drawn to antique cameras); 7 & 8. Probably the most interesting find of the day, bright and beautiful Syrian rugs.
